Getting there...

Two months now since the op and the hip feels great! I still need to work a bit on flexibility but I could probably be sailing again already. However, I made an executive decision to not order my new windsurf kit to avoid the temptation to get back on the water too quickly so I will have to wait until it arrives at the end of next month before I get my feet back in the straps.
I've been out most days on my SUP though and have started venturing out into waves again without any problem whatsoever. Check out this little video of Majanicho from last week...

Good fun. Well, the wind has finally returned to our little island after a couple of months' absence so it's off down the beach fro some tuition with Jim from NZ today, looks like Flag Beach with a decent swell. I'll see if I can get any pics to post up...

On The Road To Recovery.

Well, that's been a long, strange summer! I spent the whole summer back in the UK getting my hip resurfaced and am now back in Fuerte recovering. The op was a huge success (phew!) and my constant hip agony of the last five years is now but a memory, as is my equally everpresent limp. I won't lie, the first couple of weeks was agony and it was difficult to believe the promises of the doctors and nurses that I would eventually be free of pain and be able to walk without the aid of crutches. Eight weeks on and it's all good- I am SUPing every morning in flat water to rebuild muscles, then doing 10km on my cross trainer before stretching. I have a way to go before I'm ready to sail again (I want to be fully fit and shed the excess kilos my ma's fantastic cooking provided me with, cheers ma ;) ) but I am totally confident I'll be fighting fit by the start of December. To be honest, once I got through the first couple of weeks my stay in the UK was fantastic! I haven't spent much time there over the last 17 years or so and it was great to catch up with old friends, spend loads of time with my amazing little brother (thanks for everything Paul) and my family, without whom I don't know if I could have even organised all this, never mind get through it all. Lucy and Marina came up to visit and we spent some great weeks up north caravanning, sightseeing and fishing on my brother's boat. Good times.
I'd like to thank everyone who has helped me through this tricky time- my ma and pa, my brother and his family, my amazing girlfriend, and all my friends for their support and encouragement. Also, the security staff at the airport for helping me on and off with my shoes after I set the metal detectors off ( best get used to that I reckon). Right, where's that yoga mat?

Welcome to the site!
Aswell as regular features and news updates from Fuerte, I am going to be using this site to promote my windsurfing clinics.
After 15 years on the island, having competed in the PWA freestyle world cup and now representing Fanatic Boards and North Sails, I have decided to give something back to the sport which has given me so much over the years.
My aim is to provide clinics "tailor-made"for each individual, with a strong emphasis on practical in-the-water instruction, backed up by on-the-beach tuition and video analysis. The consistent conditions here in Fuerte make learning so much easier and, perhaps equally important, more fun than the typically inconsistent, cold UK - why not come over for a week and improve your windsurfing by a year!!!

I can help with any manoeuvres from carve-gybe through to advanced jumping and freestyle, just email me with your wish list and we'll take it from there! Over the next few months, I am going to be video-chronicling manoeuvres which you can check out on the right in my tricktionary sections. This will give you some idea of the things we can work on, or, if you can't make it over here, you may find them useful to help understand and break down a manoeuvre you would like to learn (hopefully, the slow-mo will help in this respect!).Just click on the trick and scroll down..........
Anyway, keep checking it out as I have loads more in my bag of tricks and will be updating as and when I get the footage.

See ya in Fuerte?
